The Soviet T62 tank, equipped with a 115 mm smoothbore gun, was unveiled for the first time at the "20th Anniversary of the Victory over Germany Parade" held in Moscow's Red Square on May 9, 1965, and sent a huge shock through Western military personnel. A normal tank gun has rifles (twist grooves) cut into the inside of the barrel, which rotates the shells to stabilize their position, but the smoothbore gun barrel has no rifle and uses shells with stabilizing wings. It is difficult to determine the superiority of smoothbore and rifled guns, but the T62's main gun is said to be capable of penetrating 270 mm of armor plate when its wing-stabilized armor-piercing shells hit at a right angle at a range of 2000m. At the time, the main guns of the latest tanks in Europe and the United States were mainly 105 mm rifled guns, so it attracted attention. The T62 tank is basically an evolution of the previous T54/55 tank, and there are noticeable differences in the length of the body, the change in the turret design due to the installation of a 115 mm bone-bore gun, the adoption of a high-powered engine, and the arrangement of the road wheels, but the appearance and structure are very similar. There are two types: the Jinmoto type T62 and the T62A, which is said to be equipped with an anti-aircraft machine gun and a strengthened coaxial machine gun for the main gun, and it was used as a main battle tank in the Soviet Union, Eastern European countries, and the Middle East.
